Quote of the Day

  • "Success is a journey, not a destination."  Ben Sweetland
  • "People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them."  James A. Baldwin

If you often help people in need, or if helping people is part of your profession, this day will bring certain ideas to light, Pisces. You need to take the time on a regular basis to take care of yourself. If you don’t, you won’t be able to continue to help others. Think about it and stop making excuses for why you can’t do it. Think of yourself for a change

Greetings Y’All!

I Just received this and wanted to pass it along ASAP!  My apologies to HLRCA for missing the opportunity to visit with em, but when I talked to Ellen down at KREF earlier today, I promised I get my report submitted today and mailed tomorrow – so I’m camped out here with statements & receipts…

If you are able to support Fairness, please do so.  At the present, I’ve shot my wad on Covington so it’s the least I can do to support the cause by passing this request on to The South Bank residents…

Best Regards,

Michael

Dear Michael,
     This is a historic year.
For the first time in recent memory, Kentucky’s state legislature has not filed a single piece of anti-LGBT legislation. With last year’s anti-adoption bill fresh in our minds and the previous attempts by right-wing legislators to undermine local anti-discrimination laws, the Fairness Campaign and our allies have always had to play diligent defense rather than offense at the state capitol, but not in 2010.
To date, we have reached a record number of co-sponsors on the statewide Fairness bill, which would extend anti-discrimination protections in employment, housing and public accommodations to all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Kentuckians.  Rep. Mary Lou Marzian’s Hospital Visitation Rights bill successfully passed out of the House of Representatives unanimously!  And on the heels of last year’s anti-adoption bill the House Health and Welfare Committee held an incredibly positive hearing on Rep. Tom Burch’s Dual Parent Adoption bill, which would allow unmarried partners to become legal, adoptive parents of the children for whom they care.
To hear testimony from the hearing, visit www.Fairness.org.
The tide is turning in the Commonwealth thanks to you and your support! The continued development of our strong Statewide Fairness Coalition in partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, Kentucky Fairness Alliance and Lexington Fairness is building a growing base of equality supporters in the state. United, we have received the first year of a three-year grant from the Gill Foundation to help support our goal of winning Fairness across the Commonwealth. NOW IS THE TIME for you to renew your Fairness Campaign membership and help advance our work for equality and justice. By renewing your commitment to the work of the Fairness Campaign today, you will help bring us one step closer to a hearing on the statewide Fairness bill in a House Committee next year—the next step toward potential passage of the law by 2012!
We can only hope to achieve these goals with your help, and we ask you to dig deeper than ever before by renewing your membership with a
$50, $75, or $117 contribution  to honor this session’s statewide Fairness bill—House Bill 117!
Now is the time to invest in our Commonwealth’s fair future. Together, we can seize this opportunity to once again secure our state’s legacy as the civil rights leader of the South.

Thank you for your support,

Chris Hartman, Director, Fairness Campaign

P.S. Our work in the 2010 state legislature is not over yet! There is still time to call your representatives and senators to thank them for supporting statewide Fairness bills HB 117 and SB 138, and ask them to be a champion of Fairness next session as well. Call the Legislative message line at 1-800-372-7181 today!

P.P.S. Be sure to read the Op-ed by the Statewide Fairness Coalition to learn why now really is the time for statewide Fairness!

In the past, you provided Fairness Campaign with your e-mail address. We thank you for your interest in equality for all. If you would like to be removed from this email list please reply with the word "Remove" in the subject line.
